I saw a headline recently that read, “Clinton got it right when she called them deplorables, and she was being polite.” And my first response was, “And God still loves those people. They are not deplorable to Him.”
A Case for Ethics
What is wrong is wrong regardless of who does it. We need to stop looking at WHO does things and instead look at WHAT was done. We cannot hold one set of standards for ourselves and our friends and then have a second standard for everyone else. Or, if we choose to do so, we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard.
Until All Are Equal
Happy Post-Inauguration Day friends! I hope you are doing well. I found yesterday to be a breath of fresh air, a much-needed reset button. For the first time in five years, I felt like I could breathe. I felt hope, which has been desperately lacking from our landscape. I loved the colors of the dresses... Continue Reading →
There is No Unity Without Accountability
To bully, hurt, oppress, disregard, overstep, seek to erase other people and then turn around and tell those same people that to hold you accountable is divisive is laughable and wrong. It is a tone-deaf plea from a group that has spent its entire history being abusive towards people who do not think, act, worship, or look like them. To Go First
There are only 19 days until the election. The reality is, regardless of who wins, there is going to be a group of people who are jubilant and a group of people who are terrified. The question is, will we reach out or will we hunker down?
Back to Basics
We are 40 days from the election. At this point, I assume you know who you are going to vote for. Instead of focusing on what is largely decided individually - I am going to focus on what we do come November 4th - regardless of who wins.
The Value of a Life
Most veterans serve out of senses of loyalty, altruism, to protect others, because they are brave. After this week, how can veterans (or their families) continue to support a man who despises all of those things and looks down on them because they don’t?
All Are Created Equal
Somehow, we have allowed basic human respect, the assurance of life, and that “all men are created equal” to be sliced along political lines. This is not a political issue. This is a human being issue. If you are a person of faith, this a God created all humankind issue.
The Beauty of Nuance
When we get out from behind our fear, which is craftily veiled in paper-thin tribes and sound bites, we realize that even our own opinions have nuance to them. It’s time to stop seeing any view contrary to ours as “wrong” and be willing to acknowledge the shades of gray we hold. If we cannot, our society, relationships, and humanity will continue to decline.
